Notes about the Village Sewer System

Notes about the Village Sewer System:

Each building connected to the system has a pump and a tank – there are alarms to warn that the system needs attention. If the alarm/buzzer is sounding or the red light is flashing please contact the DPW as soon as you notice them. Also contact them as soon as possible if you notice water or seepage around the tank dome in your yard. The sewer emergency service number is 517-282-1320 – at the prompt please leave a message that includes your name, address, a telephone number where you can be reached, and the reason for your call. You may also leave a message at the Village Hall at 517-625-4170 Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

To avoid some problems please remember that personal hygiene products, “flushable” baby wipes, plastic items, and other foreign objects are not flushable and will clog the system. One non-mechanical service call charge per year is waived; repeat calls for the same condition will be billed to the property owner at $75.00 each.

Water softeners, roof down spouts, exterior foundation drains, areaway drains, sump pumps, or other sources of surface runoff shall NOT be connected, directly or indirectly, to a building sewer, building drain, STEP system, or stub which, in turn, is connected directly to the public sanitary sewer.

One final note – sewer fees are billed quarterly and can be paid at the Village Hall. Sewer bills are not routinely, nor do they have to be, added to the summer tax bills. In fact, only sewer bills that are delinquent at the end of the first week of June are added to the summer tax bill. When a past due sewer bill is added to the taxes an additional 8% administrative fee is assessed.

Please contact the clerk at 517-625-4170 if you should need further information.
